With the current rental crisis, we are seeing more scams than ever before. The rental market is unfortunately being targeted the most during this housing shortage.
We thought we’d share some tips to avoid current popular rental scams. Often these scammers can appear on social media or third-party apps, try and always go through reputable websites and look out for any red flags.
- Only upload your sensitive information via official and verified platforms
- Never hand over money before inspecting the property
- Be cautious of “agents” contacting you through WhatsApp or Social Media
- If it sounds too good to be true it probably is
- Be suspicious of a real estate agent that can’t meet you in person at the property
Just remember, if it doesn’t feel right, don’t risk it!
